Why we capitalise on cleaning Shopping Centres.

The shopping centre.

Statistically some of the busiest places on earth are shopping centres, with over 50 million people visiting Westfield in the year 2021 it may come as no surprise that keeping the premises clean is a monumental effort. We are proud to be leading the charge when it comes to this, with the majority of the work completed by F4F Facilities Management in the year 2022 taking place at shopping centres throughout London.

The perfect cleaner for this task knows the importance of appearance when it comes to our shopping habits. We don’t want to purchase that ‘all so important gift’ in the place that’s drowning in dust dragged in from outside, nor do they feel like treating themselves to their favourite meal after a hard day of shopping in the place that’s quickly becoming overgrown with spider webs.

The shopping centre like the megapolis itself is a place that never sleeps and neither does our company. We’ve been busy providing our facility management services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

During the day the bins need constant emptying, accidental spills need mopping, loose bits of rubbish need to make their way to where they belong, lavatories should be hygienic and inviting, whilst glass surfaces need to be transparent to the point where you may just accidentally end up walking into them. The set of work that has to happen at night is different still; the floors need to be brought to the perfect shine following the dust and dirt that has been steadily building over the course of the day, not to mention the absence of the crowd allows for a deeper, more comprehensive clean.

Cast your mind's eye to a shopping centre. There is more to cleaning this place than the above paragraph suggests. The ceilings are tall, there are plenty of elevators, balustrades can be seen around each corner, benches and stools are scattered about to let the customer take some weight off their feet, decorative design is prevalent, unlike a restaurant there isn’t a single kitchen but a good dozen of them on each floor, each shop is adorned with a sign above the door that surely will attract a spider or two over the course of the day. We’d also like to bring to your attention that much like the city itself, for each square metre that the customer sees there is half a metre or more that they don’t; the invisible world of the shopping centre reserves space for warehouses, service tunnels, break rooms, emergency and security.

All of that without even mentioning that the outside of the building must also be maintained. The facades that need to be scrubbed and power washed, walkways should be swept free of any dirt and leaves, gutters emptied, there are a multitude of entrances that should be kept instantly inviting to the eye. The roof and the windows are obviously as much part of the building as the aforementioned facade and they will require regular maintenance.

Hygiene is important.

We now would like to focus our attention on the non-human residents of the shopping centre - the microbiome. Coronavirus has brought to everyone's attention just how important the task of maintaining consistent hygiene throughout the premises really is. Bacteria, viruses and fungi thrive in warm and crowded places. That’s why every handle should be frequently disinfected, the biological waste should be safely disposed of in a timely manner, antibacterial gel widely available and filters dispersed throughout the ventilation system should be changed regularly.

That being said, with the days of covid driving people away from the bustle and hustle of the shopping centre finally appearing to be firmly behind us it is now more important than ever to make sure your premises have a fantastic team of cleaners behind them. We are here to help with just that; you’ll find our operatives fully screened, vetted and ready to tackle any challenges. Hard work, punctuality, flexible approach around the customer, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal communication, are just some of the things we look for in our operatives.
